Why do we need O care? Besides the fact O care is a republican idea implemented in Mass by Romney and yes working very effectively.
Lets look at cancer. When a women feels a lump on her breast, she goes to the doctor, usu the oncologist. The outcome of this is a needle aspiration biopsy done by the radiologist....the pathologist gets the slides, reads it and presto, a diagnosis is given. If it is positive and infiltrated, a mastectomy is recommended, that means the tumor, the breast and the lymph nodes are removed. This is followed by chemo and radiation. Now I have infused gallons of chemo into patients and some of them are saved. The better your doctor, the better your hospital, the better your nurses, the better your chances.
What can go wrong? Well infiltration of the chemo into the tissues, the tissues are burned and they have to be surgically removed, and another site for infusing is started. The central line for infusing the chemo is suppose to end up in the Vena Cava, on many occasions when the line is threaded, it goes up through the carotid, and the chemo is delivered into the head. This is a disaster. So bottom line the doctors, neither the radiologist or the oncologist read the xray, and the nurse never got to see it. The patient will never know of this. The patient should probably ask for the xray, have it placed in the box, and have the doctor explain what is going on.
The other thing is medication error. Plain and simple the amount of chemo delivered exceeds the amount for the patients BSA, body surface area. Thats why your nurse has to be an expert in this science. Only oncologist should order chemo therapy. Nephrologist like to order chemo for Lupus to protect the kidneys but they will order the wrong one. Rescue drugs, the ones that will protect your body from the chemo have to be given precisely and lapse in precision could be fatal.
So as you can see the work of oncology nurses especially when it comes to giving the drugs should not be a coin toss.
Wouldnt it be wonderful if a Doctor, Physicist, in Australia had invented a new and better way of detecting cancer. A way did not involve irradiating the patient, a way that would give us early diagnosis, a way of checking for cancer that avoided the biopsy. Damn .... There is such a test, invented by a female physicist in Australia, that involves samples of hair and nails, to diagnose cancer. But we dont do that in the US because doctors, cant make any money. No biopsy, no xray, no pathology, cheaper, no pain. And this is why you need Obama Care.
When we took grandma to the hospital because of respiratory distress, she was in the ER several days. When I went in to visit, none of the nurses could read the monitor, she was in A. Fib, a condition where the atrial chambers is not in synchrony with the ventricles. Normally, when it is synchronous, the heart delivers 70 cc of blood to the body, with each beat. But when the atria delivers and the ventricle is not receiving the atrial kick is lost and the heart delivers about 35% less. Simply the body is not getting oxygen.

Digitalization is given IV and in a matter of hours the condition is corrected. The patient is put on the medication and soon after sent home.
