The Penny

For years now there has been talk of not making any more pennies.  The reason for this is because it cost more to make them, than they are worth.  It cost more than 3 cents to make a penny.  The nickle also falls to this circumstance.  So based on the economics they should both be discontinued.

I dont think people realize that the coins have a lot of germs so the cost of the penny and nickle do not consider these cost.  But american's should.  The metals less likely to predispose us to disease are brass and stainless steel.  

Today's penny is not made of copper, it is made of zinc and painted with copper.  This may have cut the cost of making them and the copper paint may have deceived most americans into believing that it is still a copper penny but it isnt.   The economics of the metals make copper expensive about $4.00 a pound.  Which is why the penny is made of zinc.  But even in its new disguised it cost more to make than its worth.  This is why nobody wants them.  You can find them everywhere.  The bums on the corners dont want them, they throw them away.

Other countries like Australia got rid of their penny long ago.  To that old cliche, 'a penny earned is a penny saved'  is just as applicable today.

But as one can guess politics enters into our money making.  The mining companies lobby for copper coins, or other metals.  Some coin decisions are done, "in your face", like the Susan B Anthony dollar ...... nobody wants them ..... but the Treasury has about 20 million of them warehoused.  So add the cost of the storage and this coin is a real loozer.    And dont forget the two dollar bill.

The govt makes coins of gold and silver for investments, and for collectors.  Of these coins the silver is the one most practical.  But we left the silver standard in 64.

Silver eye drops are instilled in the eyes of newborns to keep them from going blind and kill gonorrhea.  They are used to purify water.  Silver spoons are known to keep kids healthy and free of disease.  They are used in band aids and dressings.  Silver is applied to burns as Silvadene.   Silver can save your life!!!! Silver can save your life.  You can drink it if it is ionized, you can breath it, you can take it as a colloid IV.

Silver should be in the constitution ..... every man, woman and child should get a silver dollar.  Why?  Because our doctrine; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, demands it.   The state of Texas can mint silver coins, so can other states.  

So there is not only no need for the penny, the nickle, the two dollar bill.  There is no need for gold.   We should make the smallest coin the dime out of silver and the rest out of stainless steel.  

It was the beverage lobby that wanted coins to get drinks out of machines, but a soda today will cost you one dollar and fifty cents.  Also it can give out coin change.   However, today a QR card will work and there is no need to touch dirty money.
