Economics

I remember taking Economics 3101, looking at the supply and demand curve and trying to understand the subject.  I dont even remember if I passed, but I do know I never discussed the subject with anyone.  Since then we have gotten freakonomics and as much as I would like to discuss it.....not many people are into that kind of thing.

We are now talking about the fiscal cliff and sequester and frankly I think people just make things up.  Now I would say that the economics class I took was a total waste of time and money.  I would also say that Freakonomics was a much better use of my time and easier to understand.

Last week some news cast pointed out that if a person gets a degree in music, or art, that the only job they will be qualified for is turning hamburgers.  Not long ago they interviewed a man who lost his job.   This guy was a forklift operator, union, and had been working there forever and said he was going to retire from there.   What an idiot! He thought he had it made so he didnt bother to learn a trade, go to school, read a few books.   Look for another job.   This guy sat on his ass and now he wants unemployment.  He did go to school and became an air conditioning and refrigeration man.  Got a job, then he quite.  He got another job, then came back to apply for the old job.   Obviously he wasnt very good at working, he was a lazy person, and he wasnt good at air conditioning and refrigeration.

The news people were using him as an example of how bad the economy is and how a good man cant find a job.   My own observation was far from this.   I concluded that his lack of employment was due to him being lazy, this and the fact that he lacked foresight was his problem.

Economics can cause entire nations to suffer periods of unemployment, poverty, hunger.   Take for example Argentina.   The economics of Argentina are based on the Tango.

A man in Argentina has to dance the tango or he wont get laid.  A woman in Argentina has to dance the tango or she wont get married.  Now I've never been to Argentina but I've always wanted to go ..... to learn the tango.   Dancing the tango and doing it with a flair requires countless hours of study, the great dancer have to practice daily, the schools have tango as part of the curriculum and you are not a good Argentinian if you dont tango.   They export the tango ..... lots of Argentinians dance all over the world.  They dance in the streets, they compete, they invest in it.  The women have to own those dresses that fall and open at the legs to allow for the greatest movement, they have to do it in heels.  Young women have to have more than a couple of these dresses in their closet.  They dont get fat because they dance all the time.

The man have to buy suits, shoes, hats, and make enough money to take the girls out dancing.  Now all the time that is devoted to dance is time away from reading and writing, its time away from science and math, and it makes for a slow economy.  Argentinians have a second economic problem, religion.  They are catholic, which means they believe in magic.  Now nothing against the Argentinians its just that this is a good example.

The US economy has a few glitches .....  young people dont want to work, to study, to read.  No they want to become famous and rich overnight.   Girls want to be models and get maximum use of their looks and bodies instead of working.  They watch to much TV and the fashion now is beautiful forensic pathologist.   They think they can work in the lab ..... just like Bones, without a background in science.   Apparently nobody tells them that Bones is a fictional character, that there is no woman alive in that kind of science.  That there is no lab like the one shown on TV.

It is no different for men, they want to be football stars, baseball stars, track stars.  They want to be actors, singers, rappers.   They dont want to pick up a book.  They too want to see their name in the Marquee.

Religion is also a problem in America, damn Christians spend much of their time worrying about, gay marriage, abortion, prostitution.  Hell Sarah Palin can be seen getting an exorcism ...... and she doesnt read.

In Mexico the economic factor are drugs.   Everybody wants to be a bad ass cartel Capo.  Easy money.   Those that dont want to deal with the crime or fear for their lives elect to come to America.   They all say they want to come to work, but a lot of them, are coming to hide from the cartel and start their drug business in America.

The women all want to be movie stars, newscasters, singers.  They will bare their bodies for bucks.  One lady was saying that being a model is hard work, that when she did her spread for a magazine, that she spent hours on the beach in a bikini  that it was cold and that she kept getting full of sand.  She said all that sand in her bikini gave her a rash.

So when the economics professor starts to talk about the supply and demand curve make sure you ask him about freakonomics.
