Jobs

Jobs are front and center this election.  Do we think Obama can solve the problem or can the mormon do  better.  I love the way they put it .... people are suffering, they have lost their jobs, their savings, their homes.   So lets say Obama can make jobs for X number of people and M can make jobs for 2X.  Clearly, if M does have that kind of brain power we should go with him.  So if O can make 100,000,000 million jobs and M can make 200,000,000 that means everyone is working.

Back in 67 when I was in high school, there was talk of a four day work week.  Apparently, this would come about because of automation and scientific progress, that all our work was going to be so pleasant.  You know how writers are, they write because they can and they owe the public nothing.  I dont know who came up with the idea but he should fess up.

My immediate thinking was I want a job where I can take a summer vacation and a winter vacation.  I thought about teaching but, I would get these flash backs of my teachers and me as their student and knew then ...... Id rather get shot.  Really, I was a horrible student, and I wish I could take it back.  Not only did I give teachers a bad time, I kept the others from studying.  I think I was a good student, then the 7th grade came along and I just went crazy.

I use to bus tables, wash dishes, do yard work.... when I graduated I worked in retail for the PX, got to see all the celebrities come thru the line, the rifleman's kid, my three sons, they were reservist, avoiding the vietnam war (pussies).  We did everything, sweep, mop, polish the floor, run the registers, stock, ....I use to order merchandise, sell boots.   And otherwise yell at the trainees because they needed it.   I also use to load up a truck with things and drive out into the desert to sell to the 101st paratroopers, until they robbed me.  

Many years later I went to the Village Inn and the waitress brought me a cup of coffee, the cup had lipstick so I called for another, then she brought another cup and it was dirty and I said so.  She said it isnt dirty, its stained.  I said lady I use to wash dishes here, its dirty, and no dirty cup ever left the washroom on my watch.  Soak them in clorox.  

I dont believe it is the job of the government to get us jobs.  The biggest employers in El Paso back then were the pant mfgs.  Yes, you could get a job at the assembly line.  I swore I would not do that, although everyone I knew worked there.  I also dont believe you should trust the employers.  You certainly should not trust the government, so really the only person left to care for you is ..... U!

When you are a kid looking for a job, people wont hire you because you have no experience.  El Paso in particular has always had big unemployment numbers, especially once the clothing industry closed down.  They moved the factories to mexico.  I did go work in Juarez once but they confused me for a Mexican.  El Paso is notorious for businesses closing down and not paying wages.

I applied to the Post Office once, guess I wasnt smart enough, I applied to the Border Patrol, I finally ended up in retail, than on commission as a traveling salesman.  But all these jobs were dead ends.  

The Viet Nam war was in full swing and frankly it was on my nerves, than I was drafted.   When I returned I wondered around, drank, worked, went to school, but I just couldnt get my bearings.  So I enlisted, first in the Reserves then in the Army.  Went to Europe and lots of places, then one day I got a newspaper, I was sitting on top of a track, on top of the engine trying to keep warm, snow up to my ass.  All the jobs were for nursing ..... so I decided to become a nurse.  

When I got home, I went to a Medical Unit, to join.  They said no!  I wrote to washington and a colonel called me back and told me to return to the unit.  I did and they enlisted me.   I didnt realize why they didnt want me, you see the coveted spot was for a 91C an army LVN and the guy that decided would use the schools to extort a piece of ass from the women.  I finally made it into the school and graduated, then I went back to school and became an RN.  Within a few years I was making $50K, but I was killing myself, shift work, 17 hour days, no holidays off.  I worked in the ICU and I cherished it ..... it was like a dream come true.  Yes I was born to save lives.  

The hospital business is run by some very unscrupulus people.  It is a for profit operation and nothing and noone will survive if you dont have the mind set.  Patients, nurses, doctors, and janitors are all subsurvient to the all mighty dollar.  Yes there is a pecking order.  Just like in the Army.

Yes they have a 401K, but if you trust them with your money, they will steal it.  Once I worked for a hospital and they took our pension and used it to grow, there was an ensuing law suit.  It took 15 years for me to get the money.... after they paid the lawyers and everybody, I got about 600 dollars and the IRS said it was an early withdrawal so I ended up with about $200 dollars.    This was my Enron.

So how exactly is Romney going to get you a job, Donald Trump is a small business man.  You're fired.  He has a gambling casino in Atlantic City that pales in comparison to the one he has in Las Vegas.  Then he has that big golf course.  So are you going to be working for the Donald, or his son, or his daughter, or maybe for one of Romny's sons?

The ad shows a guy that lost his job, he was a forklift operator, UNION.  That means he worked the forklift exclusively and when there was no work he would sit there and wouldnt do anything else.  The guy says he expected to retire from there.  He got high wages because of the union, never read a book, never went to school, just waited for his retirement as a forklift operator.   I would have fired the man myself.

Then he loses the job and goes to school to become a heating and cooling man.  He got a job, then he lost it.  You would think he would be out hussling work.  My heating unit went out during the summer, for 3 days with temps in the 100+.  Well this is why he doesnt have a job.  Just exactly how is the government or the president, or even that idiot Romney supposed to get a man like that a job.  

The law schools keep churning out lawyers, but there are no jobs, so why give them loans.  Loans for student should be reserved only for those fields that will have at least the prospect of employment.  Computers, Business, Nursing, Teaching, the list is short.  Nursing degrees take at the most three years but you must be in the top 20% or you wont pass the exam.

Go to a graduation, they say Computer Science and one asian stands, up, they Chemistry and two asian guys stand up, they say Nursing and 20 people stand up, Engineering, 10 people stand up, when they say Education ..... the rest of the graduates stands up.  

One of my Nursing instructors had a degree in biology and couldnt get a job, so she went to nursing, got a masters, she was horrible, worse educator I've ever known.

Your savings if they are in some account that you cant control, in investments that you know nothing about, will be stolen, thats a guarantee.

Your home will be lost because your taxes will continue to go up until they exceed your income.   If you leave it to your kids they will lose it because they dont make enough money.  

And dont get sick ....
