Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas

In March of 1987 I received my passing score from the Board along with congratulations, informing me that I was licensed as a Registered Nurse.  They went on to say;
     In October,1981, the Board adopted the following resolution:
            The Texas Board of Nursing will advise candidates, at the time of initial release of their scores to them,  that the use of scores for any purpose other than licensure is not appropriate and, therefore, the Board will not provide a copy of the licensee's xamination scores to a prospective employer or to educational programs other than the program from which you graduated.

Passing Score  1600
Total NCLEX Score  2042
There I feel so much better!  Well this was a long time ago and now Im retired.  The key word her is my score, or their scores.  It is my score and therefore the BNE has no authority to decided what I can and cannot do.

I dont know what lead to this neurotic preoccupation with my score, xcept to say that I for one would have put that number on my name tag.  So this is my official release.

Im sure that any patient would have preferred the nursing of a 2042, to that of a lets say 1600.  All nurses are not created equal, and the BNE is acting as if they were.  In fact the requirement for entry into a Masters Program or a PhD program should be based on 2042.  All those with a score greater than 2042, should be eligible to a Masters program, all those with a score of 2044 should be given first right of refusal for a PhD program.

This is simply Quality Assurance.  Only nurses with a score greater than 2042, should be Nurse Managers, or Charge Nurse.  The criteria for a DON should be a score of about 3000.

The public probably doesnt realize that some of our nurses dont speak English, pobrecitas.   So how does this affect Healthcare in El Paso?   Would the hospital with the lowest scores give the better service, would they have a smaller infection rate, a smaller medication error rate, would the ratio of patient deaths to test scores be significant?

Im sure that their would be a draft, and the nurses with the highest scores would be offered the most money.  Just like in Pro-football.

The BNE has yet to feel the sting of the Freedom of Information Act.  The fact is that information that belongs to the nurses should not be covert because it may change the playing field.  Would you like your kids to get a pass fail in school, because they are all equal.   Some of those children dont speak English.  The nurses have a right to the score they earn and paid for.  The public has a right to know who is watching out for them and how capable they are.

That's what Im talking about!  2042
Take that you bitches!

Anyway, no score is more of a socialist path, more of a communist path, it certainly isnt the American way.  Competition either verticle or horizontal is healthy, and more of the natural order of things.  Hell the boy scouts get badges, the military get medals, DWTS gets a mirror ball trophy, the top ten get Magna Cum Lada , and all of these are a way of recognizing individual work and effort.  You cant get an olympic gold medal by being second best.  Then why shouldnt a nurse who studies and works hard be denied bragging rights, a trophy?  NO, you scored to high, you scored higher than the rest of us,  you put us to shame.  Exactly how does this help the public?
