Networking ..... this concept has been around for many years. It is otherwise called mingling, you go places and you present yourself to others in hopes that they can in some future date you can use their influence. Not to be confused with the current concept.
In the military their is non judicial punishment, referred to as Article 15. The punishment varies and among those are reduction in rank, fines, depending on the offense. Commanders would prefer to use this system rather than courts martial because it is out of the mainstream media. In fact their is no data on article 15's.
So what is a soldier to do if he is given an article 15, does he pay the fine, does he lose his rank ..... does he just take his due. Or does he network, find a person in the administrative chain that could use a few bucks and delay his punishment, or erase the problem completely?
I know that these things happen.... and I blame West Point for a poor curriculum. But I know that these things happen because of the absence's of supervision. Simply put commanders have no clue.
If I was Chief of Staff, I would order the commanders up to the rank of general to follow a speedy four once a year, for the entire day. Maybe two or three days, so they can see how the other side lives.
