Teaching to the Test II

As bad as it sounds, teaching to the test, doesnt only happen in our high schools,it happens at our Medical Schools.  Of course the Deans and doctors of Texas Tech would deny this outright, without even given it a second thought.

I can hear the expletives and the derogatories, already.   And the look of surprise.

Think about it a medical school where one of their scientist was sent to jail for going to France to pick up a test tube of Plague.   Plague, this is the stuff you hear about in the history books.  It wiped out half the population in Europe, it literally stopped progress for years and when it was over it was told to you in school as the Renaissance.  The professor testified that he carried it inside his coat pocket.  When 911 happened and the search for  terrorist was
expanded to ma and pa.  This guy came up on the radar. He  lost 35 test tubes with plague, one of the most deadly germs ever to grace our humanity.

Oh you dont have to take my word for it, ask Dr. Handel, he was my roommate in Ft. Sill.  Ask Dr. Casner, he was in charge of the Internal Medicine Clinic.    

When Dr. Handel was deployed he lost a $3Million Dollar grant.  Dr. Casner has been in charge of the Internal Medicine Clinic forever and that clinic has been in the red every year.

Texas Tech was sued a few times for discrimination, in one case, the lady from IT found some records in a computer she was fixing that showed that all the women made less money than the men.  

And what of the outcomes,no nobel prizes, no relevant discoveries, no cost containment.  In fact Alameda has been under construction at their request so the Medical School can look, stunning.

When the ribbon was cut, The dean of the school was scheduled to give a speech, but he had a sudden onset of Dementia, couldnt even say his name.  So needless to say a new and sudden Dean took the helm.

So you see, it can happen to anybody.

The most famous Doctor to go crazy was an englishman, he was an author;  the creative genius of Sherlock Holmes.  The most recent Doctor to go Crazy was in the Army, a psychiatrist, a muslim, he killed more than a few.  This year one of our official was found guilty of taking bribes for promoting the agenda of someone other than the city. She was found to have received ChemoTherapy at Texas Tech Internal medicine clinic and was never charged. She paid it before she went to jail.
