EPISD

Incredible!  The Commissioner for education for Texas is here in El Paso and he has the power to fire the school board.  Why cant the city fire the school board???  Why cant we the citizens of this community, who pay the salaries of the board, the salaries of the teachers, who pay for the education of this community, who own the buildings, why cant we fire the board????

Why do we pay taxes?  EPISD is a taxing entity, that means its a bottomless pit!  We give them money and everyone but us has a right.  This is so undemocratic.  We are getting screwed people.

We should be able to control, who attends our schools, what they will be taught, who is qualified to teach them.  We should be able to control how much money is needed for the goals we set.  We should be able to control how many buildings are needed and which buildings need to be closed down, which buildings should be demolished.

We should be able to control the number of buses, where they go, what route they take.  We should be able to openly decided how the funds are spent and where they are kept.

We should be able to do these things because nobody cares more about our children than we do.  The law is very clear, kids should go to school until they are 16.

As parents it is our obligation to see that these children are spoon fed knowledge and information they will need to make it in the world.  It is also the responsibility of these children to make the most of their education in the system we provide.

Teachers and educators have their own opinion about how this task is best accomplished and we taxpayers would be foolish not to listen to them.  But the city has the final say.   The state has its own agenda and that agenda often will conflict with ours.

Teachers like parents are obligated to teach until they are sixteen years of age.  But beyond this teachers should be able to decide if they want to teach those individuals.  Not all students are going to benefit from more education and wishing it will not make it so.  Not all students are going to benefit from the imposed curriculum.  So there should be options.  It isnt like we dont need people to do the work or even the dirty work.  It isnt like there are not professions with demanding curriculum that will exceed the ability of many students.  The Nursing School in Dona Ana County is closed because the students could not pass the exam.

This happens because the students have been iladvised, which is negligence on the part of the school, or because the school is unable to fulfill its contractual obligations.
In my nursing class we had a lady that was older and 30 minutes prior to graduation they threw her out.  Now I agree that maybe she wasnt qualified but Im sure they knew this long before graduation.  Now the lady passed her exam, and unless she is a felon she should be given all the rights and privildges she earned.

Education has to be customized to not only fit the local needs of the community but the strategic needs of the country.  It should have at its core reading, writing and rithmatic.  It should include those fields and areas of human behavoir and physical needs that will render these individuals to make competent decision about those behavoirs and needs.

Sex is a behavoir that can and does have consequences that affect the entire community.  People should know about those sexually accquired diseases and how they will be impacted by practicing unsafe sex.  They should know about how their bodies are going to change, how their social circumstances will change.  They should know about pregnancy, birth control ..... and they should know these things prior to leaving the house on the first date.  They should know about sexual deviants, predators, abuse and what to do, before they get into a car with a stranger.

They should know about health, anemias, obesity, foods, diets, drinks, teas, medicinal herbs, infections, treatments.  And they will not learn this from a coach.  They need to know about insurance, healthcare, doctors.  How to take a temperature.  They need to know about transportation, cars, insurance, maintenance.   They need to know about shelter, houses, insulation, roofs, walls, windows, energy, bills.  They need to know about clothes, fibers, weather, shoes.

They need to know about computers, the internet, utility programs, hardware, software.

They dont need to know about baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, choir, music, video games.

And we as members of the school district, the parents and the teachers have to insure that it works.  Failure is not an option.
