Well my A/C went out for about three days and the temperature was over 100 degrees. I called them to come and see it but they were in no hurry, the first guy came and couldnt fix it said he didnt have the part and would return in the morning.
Well he didnt show, I called them about 1130 and said morning is almost over, the girl said they would be here at 1:00. One became 2 and finally he showed up at 2:30, but he didnt have the part so he took a ride.... came back later, apparently having purchased it. He installed it, the capacitor and gave me a bill for $224, the part was $18 dollars.
Now those of you that know me probably think that I will snuff the guy, or did, but I'm holding it together. Just barely. Antecedent to this, I had called them for PM and was quoted a price for $65, I had to call them again and they sent some parolee. He came in and was checking the vents for CO. I told him the unit was outside but he said they didnt do that in the winter, and charged me $85 dollars.
I knew it was going to be a problem from the get go because when we put the unit in, the inspector came by and would not approve the installation, apparently the insulation was a few inches short, I called them and informed them. They came back took off the one they applied and did it with a 4 inch insulation like the code said, the inspector returned after that and approved the job, then the sheet rock people came and did the finish. This ran close to $8000 dollars. The electric bill is much higher and so the operational cost should be a point of discussion, although it does save water.
I dont know how you feel about the Kings, but I wont do business with them again. All of the technicians that have come to the house are super polite, a big plus. Its a very subtle fuck, you feel it only when you are writing the check.
In come the Japanese. They have developed units that go in the individual rooms, this means I dont have to go on the roof. This means you dont have to cool down the whole house only the room you are in. This means that, I dont need any vents, those nasty things that get full of dust, I dont have to clean them. Beyond this if one unit goes bad, hell I can change them out.
This means the house will probably sell for $2000 less, forget the condensation that drips and stains the wall. Im telling you folks ..... now I suffer from yellow fever. In my next life I will come back as a Jap. I can see myself now wearing my silk kimono, eating with those little sticks, being thin, drinking saki, small electric bill. There is a god and he is Japanese.
