Hard to know where to begin, lets start at the top. The city has several school districts and the largest one is EPISD. There is a school board; president Isela Castanon-Williams is the thieving leader. Her crime is that $50,000 dollars in bonus money was collected fraudulently. What she conspired to do was to forfeit the lives of our students by cooking the academic books. Students that were determined to suffer educational anemia were kept from taking the test, or their data was falsified to make them look like they met the standards. Beyond this she refuses to surrender her resignation that we might choose an honest person, rare though they might be. This women is a pretentious bitch who refuses to accept that she was responsible for only one employee, superintendent Lorenzo Garcia, PhD. She tells us that he alone bares culpability, when she was his boss. When the story breaks, she takes another wad of our money, $15K, and pays a public relations firm in Houston to help her in constructing a web of lies to feed taxpayers.
I dont know what to say, she refuses to resign, to accept responsibility for her failure to supervise, to return the money she fraudulently collect, the salary she didnt earn and to leave town. The woman should be banished.
The board under her stewardship refused to close schools that were no longer needed because they lacked students. To close buildings almost 100 years old, that were not energy efficient. Yes she managed to get the support of teachers, because they wanted to keep their jobs.
The board hired garcia for a salary of $500,000 dollars, more than the president of the United States. I have for years said that the Superintendent of Schools should be a manager, not an educator, and he should not get a salary that the taxpayers cant afford. It has always been obvious to me that the man is an idiot, he confirmed this when he tried to argue that Thomas Jefferson did not write the Declaration of Independence. He confirmed this when he said that his PhD made him the only person able to communicate with the state regarding educational business. Now that he has been indicted and charged with multiple crimes, he will be going to jail, where he will become somebodies bitch....I hope he has the nerve to kill himself and save us all a few bucks.
Isela Castanon-Williams lives less than a mile from me but nothing she can say or do will restore her pretentious political face, her reputation, her dignity. She can return the monies she did not earn. Yes I find her actions criminal and hope she ends up in a cell next to garcia. I hope she submits her resignation or hangs herself, she is a disgrace to herself and the good people of El Paso.
As for the rest of the board; you fair no better. You dont really think that you will be allowed to walk among us. You dont really think that your families and your children will not hang their heads in shame for your catalog of sins. And unlike the Times I think the entire board is at fault and conspired to steal from our kids the education and equal opportunity they were entrusted to deliver. You have squandered our votes. All of you can kiss my ass!
