Education is the next economic bubble. Fact is education is very expensive, yes it is necessary but is it affordable.
If I were chief of staff, I would give the lowest interest rates on student loans to those people that have the best chance of getting a job ..... like nursing, business, computers. And beyond this, I would insist on two or three years for a degree. I would cut out remedial education at the higher levels, bilingual education at the lower levels. Save a few bucks. I would stop paying for masters degrees for those areas where there is no employment ...... Masters in education, nursing, PhDs, we just dont need another lawyer. We dont need some of the specialty medical doctors.
I would not give student loans for medical assistants, or nursing assistants, these degrees just dont do anything but generate debt, a nursing assistant would have to work 20 years to pay the money back.
Then you have the colleges that just take the money .... Texas Tech allows students to enroll, but will not return any money if the student is flunking, this is done by forbidding the professors, instructors from failing students during the window, when they can drop a class.
Parking is another big money maker .... they make millions in parking fees.
If I were chief of staff, I would reduce high school to three years. That last year they can do at home on the internet. Send them home with a reading list.
And another thing people, kids in high school dont need a cell phone, if they are caught texting in class, the phone should be confiscated and the parent can pick it up at their convenience, or the parent can come in for class with the kid. Otherwise in the absence of punishment, those kids will be disruptive. Since this is a deliberate attempt to deprive the other students of a federally funded education, and a federally funded mandated education, this is a federal responsibility. Fine the student, the parent, or throw them out.
