Our city fathers and county mothers are at it again. Its obvious they are not fiscally responsible. They are not well read these people and they have no fear of bankruptcy. They just like to spend the money. Now they want to build a big soccer stadium for about $400 million to ad to our debt of $400 million and dont care how this will affect the community. Do they not realize that tax increases hurt us. How can anyone keep his home when there are no jobs and the payment keeps going up. This is a retirement community!
But these people assume office with their own agenda, make deals before they take office and forfeit our life, liberty and dreams. Not only that, they are arrogant! They think that they have all the answers, when the only answers they keep repeating is throw money at it.
Our schools, EPISD are in sad shape, the test scores are low and people need remedial classes to gain entrance to any university. Some schools like jeff .... dont give homework. Now they want to spend $10 million in iPads? The community college does no better, they should only be teaching courses that will lead to employment. And EPISD needs to step up and make changes in their teaching of math and basic English. If not these dumb Mexicans will be left in the dust. Sorry they are already behind, the US ranks 25th in math and science.
So hopefully since I seem unable to change the status quo, I can change the future for the better. As you may know El Paso is a city with a pollution problem. Just get up early and go up to scenic drive and look down at the pollution you are breathing. The second ward is especially vulnerable to this environmental disaster, why, because they have millions of cars crossing the international bridges and burning gasoline, diesel and oil.
With all this on their plate do we really want a stadium that does not give us a profit, or pay for itself. It will take 100 years for this city to recover from such an economic miscalculations. I will be dead, the stadium will be crumbling, and our kids will still be unable to read and write English, do basic math and earn a living.
The age of the citizenry now averages 63 years of age. All of these people will be dead. With banks like Wells Fargo who come here to make money ..... dont be surprised if they end up owning y our neighborhood.
But we have more immediate things to fix. If the price of gas continues near $4.00/gal the city will not be able to afford to drive. We will end up with older cars that put out more pollution that will affect our medical bills.
Comes CNG, natural gas....cars, trucks and buses can run on this fuel, it costs about 70% of the price of gas. That means that gasoline will be under two dollars a gallon, :), yes! So you can fill your tank for $20 bucks. This means you will have extra money to pay for tickets for the arts, boxing, Plaza Theater, hamburgers, ice cream, oh so much money$$$
We do need to install some CNG stations, stop issuing permits for gasoline. Cars are now in production that will work on CNG, guess what? Zero emissions, that means our cost of asthmatics will go down. Money that Thomason will not have to invest and they can do other things with it. It has some secondary benefits, people will not be able to commit suicide in their garage by leaving the car on, thats why its is Clean Natural Gas.
Now some people will still want gasoline, so what if we mix, CNG with gasoline, two pistons on CNG and two on gasoline.
We also need to make our students savy, they have certification training, maybe EPCC could take the course on. If people cant buy a new car, then they buy and install a conversion kit. This means we will need more mechanics ..... I can just see the city from scenic drive, HD. Our city buses already run on CNG but our school buses dont.
Then maybe we can change from the culture of punitive bullying to a culture of think. What if those red lights dont give you a ticket but instead lower the speed of the approaching car, even shut down the engine.
Happy days are here again .... do I hear an Amen? Oh and students dont need a soccer stadium, they need books to read. We really ought to throw them out of the country, if they dont comply. I hope to see all of you in that CNG Civic. Oh and dont worry we have more gas than the Arabs.
