Philantropy Never does a day go by when I dont get something in the mail from some organization with a global cause and asking for my donation. Today it is Heifer International. This organization has a goal of eliminating global hunger .... It is located in Little Rock Arkansas, next to the Clinton Library. It has offices and personnel around the globe and it acheives its goal by giving livestock to families.
Donors can give llamas, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, honeybees, chicks, ducks, water buffaloes, seedlings, guinea pigs, donkeys, oxen, camels, and cows. The bees go to Albania, so they can earn income from honey and beeswax, the cows go to Albania, to help a village. They have been doing this since 1944, thats, 67 years. That herd can be seen by Google satellite, so does the slaughter house. Albania is now the chief exporter of cows in eastern Europe.
Cows in-case you missed it, have to be pregnant to make milk and feed their calf's. They can eat a lot of hay, these fields can be observed by satellite. These cows have to be artificially inseminated because their is no mention of bulls. You need a barn to keep the cows in the winter, a hay loaf, a wagon, a veterinarian, vaccines. Then the cow becomes leather, for coats and boots and such. From the milk you make cheese, ice cream. Cows have to be milked several times a day. They produce a lot of methane gas, they produce cow pods. Apparently all this is taught to those Albanians.
It is a Muslim nation 80%, a literate nation 99%, thats better than the US. Newsweek rated it 57 out of 100 top countries. They have economic growth, thats more than we're having, they export energy, and produce wheat, corn, tobacco, figs and olives. They have nice beaches and fish the Mediterranean.
They are sheep herders, not cattle.
In the few times that I have been to Little Rock, I went to the Clinton library, I didnt go in because of the ticket price but it was there. I did not see the Heifer International building that is next to it. In fact if I remember correctly, the Arkansas river is next. They do have a PO Box in Albert Lea, MN 56007. Apparently Jimmy Carter has giving them his blessing along with 60 Minutes and the Associated Press. The New York Times has also given them good marks, Diane Lane, the actress is also on board, as is Susan Sarandon.
President Reagan awarded Heifer the Presidents Award for Voluntary Action in 1986 and President George H.W. Bush presented them with the End Hunger Award in 1990. Barbra Bush, former first lady, supports the organization.
And they also give a school of fish and a gaggle of geese. I just cant imagine the capture of a school of fish, Im sure that these gifts are only for people with ocean front property. The catalog is printed with eco friendly ink on recycled paper. Just another way they care for mother earth. They are also the winners of the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize.
I'm still not convinced .... I want to see their balance sheet, their profit and loss, and the salaries of the top ten employees. Until then, I remain your humble skeptic. You gotta love this country.
Obama are you getting this?
