ROI......Return on Investmnt

A few days ago I was reading about Universities and Colleges, and whether or not they pay for themselves.   Apparently they dont.  Of the over 5000 colleges only about 150 of them will return the investment, your four years and what you payed for them.  The majority will not pay for your student loans.

Here in  El Paso, they want to build some low cost housing for starving artist.  Not that Im against artist, I wish I could afford some of their paintings.  But there are many people who pick up a brush and put paint on Canvas and god bless them, they are anything but an artist. Maybe they should be painters, or study something else.   Anyway the virtual  galleries are overflowing with excellent work.   Yet these folk spend 4 years in colleges and universities on student loans and cant paint or draw.   You would think there would be a vote like The Voice, orAmericas got talent.   Fact is if you can draw and paint .... you dont need college courses.

If you come from a low income, you dont have time and money to waste.  If for example you want a job/career, it would be cheaper to get a degree in nursing  for50K dollars at a community college, than a university for 100K dollars.  The fact is the ADN will have two years experience, 50K dollars richer that they didnt borrow and would have earned 100K dollars while the universities are laundering money.

If students want to go to the university in light of this fact then they should pay for it.   15% of nursing students dont pass their boards the first time,so the degree is worthless without the license.  Plus you are competing on a global scale.   You are competing with Canadian nurses, Mexican Nurses, Puerto Rican, English, Filipino and the entire country.

Yes some professions will deliver, but those are t he math, science and computers.  Law degrees just are not what they use to be, just ask anyone of the class of 2010.   Accounting, Medicine, will still feed you.   You should otherwise get a trade, plumbers, mechanic, electrician, plastic molding ....

Some of the schools that dont deliver in Texas were well documented;  Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Our Lady of the Incarnate Word, Rice and they were shown to be bad investments.

In New Mexico, Las Cruces was better than Albuquerque, but both of their numbers combined could not put them in the top 150.

So the student loan bubble will bust and you will be left holding the debt and a degree that will not serve you.

So remember dont confuse education with school
