Consumer Reports

Dear Consumer Reports

Im looking at the latest issue, page 31, subject; cervical cancer.  The only thing I can say is that you are misinformed, or you are on the take.  Both are equally bad.  But because I believe that over the years you have done more good than harm I will give you this opportunity to apologize to your subscribers for the irresponsible and negligent information you give one and all on this subject.

Cervical Cancer has a singular cause and that is HPV.  If a women is expose to HPV  she will get cervical cancer at some future time.  Ironically, we have a cure for cervical Cancer, a vaccine for HPV , it is preventable.

Now we have a blood test for HPV and it is a confirmatory test.  If you take the blood test you dont need the PAP smear.  The pap smear is a cervical scraping, mounted on a slide, read by a histologist, then a pathologist.  It is reported as positive or negative.

Here is the kicker, historically, the PAP smears have been reported as negative and then women die from cancer.  Thats why histologist are only allowed to read slides in the lab, and only so many.   There was a time when they claimed to take them home, to read several thousand a day, but in truth they ended up in the trash, and reported as negative.  This practice still goes on today.

Now the OB/GYN doctors do thousands of these, it is their bread and butter.  They wont make any money from the lab work, or they will make less.  So they have a vested interest in your cervix and in your pap smear.   This is a conflict of interest.  Now for some reason the Dept of Health and Human Services has been politically inert on this issue, maybe we should cut their budget.

Now HPV is a bipartisan virus and an equal opportunity virus, so men are at risk.  No they dont get cervical cancer, they get esophageal cancer, and again they can get the vaccine and this will be prevented.

The HPV vaccine is expensive, so poor people will be at higher risk than rich people.  Also women are more into breast cancer.  But HPV can be prevented.  So why not have medicare pay for the vaccines, why dont we save ourselves the expense of treating all those women?  Why dont we pay for the vaccines for men, that could save some bucks.    Why dont we have the ACS society pay for them, they get billions of dollars, and they can afford it.   They could prevent every single case of cervical cancer.

The above link to breast cancer speaks to the physicist that has discovered a better way to detect cancer.  She can do this by Xray of the hair, nail, skin and it is very accurate.  The Doctor is in Australia and already her samples and data have been ransacked.  Her test does not expose the patient to radiation, is better than a mammogram.   This xray is read by a doctor, a radiologist and it will always have a suspicious spot that will have to be operated on, always.  This is their bread and butter.  This is a conflict of interest.   This is another area of healthcare where taxpayers could save money.  This is another issue where the Department of Health and Human Services has been politically inert.

This doctor needs your research dollars and is the best testing for early detection of breast cancer on the horizon.

In short, Consumer Reports I am disappointed in your review of these problems and can only say that your journalism is at best amateuristic.    And the consequences of your sloppy work will result in the death of Americans, needlessly.
