Ive written bfor on this subject n a few ppole were concerned with proof, copyright n other priorities. This idea came to me a long time ago. Now with neuropathy, n arthritis, I see that we can make a few changes. I dont want to change things just bcaus I can. I blieve that th changes will make our written language easier to print, make us faster in constructin th print. I blieve it will save us, time n money. I blieve it will save us resources, ink, paper. I blieve that it will increase th speed of communicatin. That we can reduce all those carpel tunnel problems. Imagine our books will b smaller, we can carry more, we can store more, they will cost less.
Th changes also will give us goals n standards that will give both student n teacher a metric. Teachers r responsible for 80% n students for 20%. Now if th 20% is th problem, then mayb th parents need to come in for a week, so they can understand their part.
If th student fails, th parent fails. If th goal is not met, th student will b afforded a second opportunity. Now I am only speakin to th United States. Other ppole have their country n they can dcide what is best for them. I will tell u that their is always room for improvement n these changes will benefit any nation. How did I come by th research....google. Will I give refrences, no....google.
Th first argument ppole give is tradition oriented....my answer is throw away ur cell phone. To this end let us begin.
We have tools that we use for learnin, for teachin, for communicatin. U may have noticed that I dont use certain letters on certain words bcaus, it will not affect th word. Xcept for Th which is how I spell the, since e is th most frequently used letter in th English language, this save us a letter. If u consider th fact that we use that e a billion times in a day, n mayb a trillion times in a year, thats a lot of key strokes, ink, paper, time. Now, I have not made th computation....I could b off by a billion or more. So what! Th important thing is that we have gained a huge return for our investment. U see not only is e th most frequently use letter but THE is th most frequently used word.
This brings us to th alphabet...u know th old one as does everyone else. We do most of our writin usin computers n specifically th keyboard, Most of us use th QWERTY. Th letters on this keyboard were arranged in th worse way possible to slow down th typist. Th original typewriters were mechanically not up to th speed of th secretaries, so th keys would all bunch up n stick....u had to separate them. Th change is QWERTY board, now that th machines r faster than th typist, we can default to that key board.
Ladies n Gents I present th frequency alphabet....EtAOInsrhidcUmfpgwYbvkxjqz. Th first 12 letters make up 80% of th words. Those letters r in red n th responsibility of th teacher, th last twelve r th responsibility of th student n parent. Needless to say we need a new dictionary. We also have to get use to some of th changes, remember u use to b th last in line, now there is hope. Th capitals r th vowels n we need to b familiar with them....every syllable has a vowel.
Flash cards r a tool n we should make sure that th letters r consistent with words th student will use. X is for xylophone....th student will never use this word. How about X is for xit?
Words v letters. Words r th genus n letters r th species, there r more words than letters. We learn from th whole to part, thats why kids understand NO. They understand mama, papa, n a few other words. Just bcaus we write/type a word in a certain way doesnt mean we have to print it that way. Th PC can do that for us, it can do it faster than we can. Th Qwerty key frequency could also b changed for th better. This is it:
Space e t Shift a o i n s r h Del l d c u Enter m f p g w y b , . v k ( ) _ ; " = ' - Tab x / O $ * 1 j : { } > q [ ] 2 z ! < ? 3 + 5 \ 4 # @ | 6 & 9 8 7 % ^ ~ `
U can see that th space bar is used th most, that said it is made so that u can use both thumbs. Then shift key again it has two keys, bcaus it is used frequently, so why not make this a foot paddle? Or th space bar. I dont know where th dlete key is... I have to search for it. U will notice that th double quotes r used more than th single quote....shouldnt this b reversed? Th frequency should b reversed. N th best way to do this is to change th rule, use double quotes on quotes, why cant it b; use single quotes on quotes? This is so pervasive that ppole can b seen makin a gesture with their hands n two fingers, when they speak. Certainly this keyboard can b adjusted. Americans dont use th tilde but Hispanics do. None of this is set in stone, yet, so some of u may have other opinions n they may give us better outcomes.
Just bcaus we type a double letter doesnt mean it has to print that way. Th Germans do it with their symbol for double s they use th crazy B. Double letter frequency is, ss ee tt ff ll mm oo. So when we type ss, it can print, th lazy B. For double e, we can use th 3. This takes care of th first two.
Th twenty most used words in English: the, of to in and a for was is that on at he with by be it an as his. This could use a change; th, n, b , p, d , There might b others but this is a good start n one that will give us good results.
Th most common words; Th, n, b, r, bein, ppole, bfor, btween (btw3n) . Certainly if we can change th alphabet we can change th words, these have th highest frequency. Simply changin these few will b economically sound.
Th first 13 letters make 80% of th words. Eighty percent of th English language consists of 1000 words. So there is your standard, students must learn those 1000 words bfor they get out of grammer. If we use th 80/20 rule, teachers should focus on th 80% that give us 20% of th trouble.
My last advice is change th prefix ex, to x, we can save a few e, th outcome; xit, xchange, xtra. N remember xylophone does start with an x, but it wouldnt matter one iota, bcaus they will never use that word.
There r smart kids that will adapt to any changes n it wont matter, but th kids that arent as smart will benefit from th changes. Th nation as a whole will benefit bcaus it will conserve resources. Those big books will b lighter, cheaper, easier to carry, conserve resources. These r all green changes worthy of consideration.
